New Year's Reception for Media Representatives

Rector of the University of Tuzla Professor Nermina Hadžigrahić made a New Year's reception for the media that are working in the city of Tuzla, and on this occasion she summarized work results of this higher education institution in 2017.

Rector Hadžigrahić said that the University of Tuzla has gone through a turbulent period, after which University entered into a calm waters. Rector also pointed out that this higher institution does not run from the media criticism, and every well-meaning criticism is more than welcome on University address.

She also said that this year the University of Tuzla signed an agreement with the Press Council of BiH, which is assessed as a significant step that opens a significant space for education of the journalism students on all ethical standards of professional reporting.

In academic 2017/2018 1,600 students enrolled, which represents the smallest number of freshmen, and Rector hopes that this negative trend will not continue in the forthcoming period.

'It's up to us to do everything that we can to that this does not continue' said Rector.

In the current academic year, 1,354 graduates and 273 masters of science were promoted. In honor of the Doctor of Science, 48 candidates have been promoted, and six honourable students on whom the Rector is particularly proud.

25 professors were promoted into full professor, and those professors are special strength of the University, said Rector Hadžigrahić.

This institution was visited by a number of renowned lecturers, including Dr. Ervin Sejdić, Dr. Mahir Hadžić, Academician Muhamed Filipović, Dr.Edhem (Eddie) Čustović, and Ambassador of Indonesia Her Excellence Amelia Achmad Yani.

'These visits have opened opportunities for us to continue cooperation with the institutions from which above mention persons are coming from'added Rector Hadžigrahić. She also pointed out that University of Tuzla in the previous year has signed a number of agreements on cooperation with other higher education institutions outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the forthcoming period, particular attention will be paid to increasing of the students and staff mobility at the University of Tuzla.

'Although we have a positive trend, we are not satisfied with the mobility of our students. According to the Bologna Declaration principles, they should during their education spent one part of their education on some universities outside of our institution and Bosnia and Herzegovina', said Rector Hadžigrahić, pointing out that a number of Tuzla students are already on the exchange, and several students from the unviersities of Turkey are currently at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Tuzla.

When it comes to campus in Tuzla, the Rector said that that at the moment are on they way infrastructure works at the student pavilions, and we are planning construction works in the student canteen.

'We are also concerned about new study programs, because we want to adapt them to the needs of the labor market. We want to educate students who will be able to find suitable employment after graduation, and preferably stay in BiH,' said Rector Hadžigrahić.

At this higher education institution, more than 11,000 students are currently studying, arranged on 12 faculties and the Academy of Dramatic Arts. Since foundation of the University, more than 40,000 students have graduated at this higher education institution.
