The Rector of the University of Tuzla Nermina Hadžigrahić, PhD, said that the University in the academic year 2017/2018 enrolls a significant number of students, however this number is less than it was planned. ‘The enrollment of the smaller number of students encourages us to work in the following period on updating our curriculum, and in accordance with the Conclusions of the General Assembly of Tuzla Canton we will make an elaboration on justification for the establishment of new study programs, departments and faculties such as agricultural, textile, tourism, diplomacy and international relations, dentistry, etc.

Our tendency is to launch more scientific researches as possible, and with the consent of the Government of the Tuzla Canton, University of Tuzla goes into establishing scientific research centers and institutes within the University but also that we work on other projects as well, such as lifelong learning projects, and that we don’t base ourselves only on the secondary school students, and that the modern concept is the concept of learning throughout life and that is something we certainly need to work on, ‘ said Rector.

The Prime Minister of the Tuzla Canton Government Bego Gutić congratulated the beginning of the academic year 2017/2018 and congratulated to the academic community on the maturity and democratic atmosphere shown in the process of electing the Rector.

‘The Rector and the University have clear and unequivocal support from the Tuzla Canton Government and I am glad that today, with the Rector and Deans of the faculties / Academy, I can discuss and  talk about issues that need to be completed from our side with the aim of developing the University. Tuzla Canton Government will not allow any politician intervene in the management of the University, whatever the policy option is. The enrollment policy in the forthcoming period must be in line with the needs of the labor market, we must turn to technical sciences, to new study programs and opening of new faculties. As far as the material preconditions for the work of the University we can say that we managed to ensure that University in a solid level functions properly. The agreement with the Turkish Government for International Cooperation and Development - TIKA for the reconstruction of facilities KN-21 at the Campus of the University of Tuzla was terminated at the University.

However, Rector Hadžigrahić has already talked with TIKE Director and the Tuzla Canton Government fully supports the continuation of the reconstruction project that should start in 2018’ said Prime Minister Gutić. He also pointed out that he expects cooperation and joint work on development and improvement of the University.

The Deans of the faculties agreed and said that support from Tuzla Canton Government is practically visible, and that they will also propose new projects which would ultimately make working conditions at the faculties more modern. The Tuzla Canton Government will try to help in realization of those projects, however rebuilding of the Campus is a strategic commitment of the Government, because the implementation of this project will solve most of the problems of all faculties of the University of Tuzla.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zlatan Muratovic, said that he expects from the University a significant shift in the reform processes. ‘The Tuzla Canton Government and the General Assembly of the Tuzla Canton have provided basis for such processes through the adoption of the Law on Higher Education, the Law on Scientific Research and I think that by working together and by synergy of all relevant factors when it comes to higher education in our Canton, we can achieve better results in this area. Recently, we had a meeting with the Director of the Dormitory and we expect a significant investment by the end of 2017 and early 2018 around million and a half KM in the pavilions of the dormitory. The University of Tuzla and the University Clinical Center is one of the highest values we have in the Tuzla Canton and in this regard the Tuzla Canton Government and the Ministry gives full support for the realization of these goals’ said Minister Muratović.
