Tuzla, 09 June 2017

Symposium ''Science and Society'' will be held from 20th to 26th August 2017 in the city Neum. Symposium is organized by the Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics of the University of Tuzla in colaboration with Frakfurt Institute for Advanced Studeis (FIAS) and Institut fuer Theoretische Physic Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitaet Frankfurt.

Deutcsher Akademischer Austauschdienst German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is finansing a Symposium.

Science and especially physics has always been a pioneer in enabling and fostering international cooperation. Scientists have a tradition of overcoming ethnic and political barriers as pioneers of establishing new forms of cooperation. As examples of such cooperation, we can mention Israeli – German collaboration achieved over the Max Planck Society and the Weizmann Institute, and collaboration between the Soviet Union and the West during the Cold War.

The symposium is initiated by scientists from Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia, who are active in the field of theoretical/mathematical physics and experimental/applied physics. The participating Universities of the Western Balkan countries which contribute to the realization of the Symposium are the University of Tuzla, University of Mostar, University of Banja Luka, University of Novi Sad, and University of Zagreb.

The symposium is, however, not focused on the exchange of scientific ideas, but on discussion of science promotion and its impact of civil society in the region. The already existing connections in the area of physics will be used to establish a network that allows to bridge between the local universities in the region.

The goal of CONNECT is to bring together established and young scientists to stimulate discussions and joint scientific work to the benefit of the peaceful development of civil society.
